Statement on Behalf of the Detroit Public Schools Community District Board of Education

On behalf of the Detroit Public Schools Community District Board of Education, we want our students, parents, educators, staff, and the entire Detroit community to know that we have heard the concerns being shared throughout our city and across social media.

No parent, student, employee, or community member should ever feel unheard or silenced. Every voice matters, every concern deserves respect, and every family deserves to know their elected Board members are listening.

While our district has made meaningful progress, our work is far from finished. We believe every child deserves a safe, clean, and welcoming learning environment, and every family deserves responsive customer service and timely, clear communication. We also believe that when contracts and major decisions come before the Board, they must be transparent, thoroughly reviewed, and carefully vetted so we can make informed decisions in the best interests of our students and the public. That is our responsibility, and we remain committed to fulfilling it every day.

The Board remains committed to providing independent oversight and accountability while continuing to work collaboratively with Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti and his administrative team. As we move forward together, we expect the highest standards of professionalism, communication, transparency, responsiveness, and customer service because that is what the Detroit community deserves.

We encourage you to attend our upcoming Board meetings and community town halls, speak with us, or email the Board directly. We want to hear from you because your voice matters, your perspective matters, and your partnership helps build stronger schools for every child in Detroit.

Students Rise. We All Rise.
